HOT YOGA
Hot yoga is a series of poses performed in a heated room. This warms the body, makes it more flexible, and promotes sweating to rid the body of toxins.
This style of yoga has been made popular by yogis such as Bikram Choudhury and Jimmy Barkan who have created their own particular routines and styles (Bikram Yoga and the Barkan Method) based around traditional yoga postures.
It is a style of yoga that can easily be practised at all levels of ability within one class, It is also suited to those with conditions such as arthritis who find more active practices such as ashtanga difficult.
TIPS & CAUTIONS
It's essential to have your own towel when doing hot yoga since you will be sweating so much. Students tend to wear short leggings and close-fitting t-shirts or vests for the same reason.
Make sure to drink plenty of water before and after class so you don't get dehydrated. It is not advisable to eat during the two hours before class.
Hot Yoga is not generally recommended for pregnant women, since it can raise the core body temperature.
"Yoga is so universal in its principles and so holistically beneficial, it is possible for any person, young or old, religious or agnostic, to embrace and enjoy a practice." Christy Turlington
"As long as there is breath in the body, there is life.
When breath departs, so too does life.
Therefore, regulate the breath." Hatha Yoga Pradipika
"Our life is the creation of our mind" Buddha, The Dhammapada
